You Are What You Eat

A lot of us really care a great deal about our health and what we put into our stomach. I think “You Are What You Eat” does have its virtue. With our schedules and everything else going in our life, it may be difficult sometimes to have a full control over what we eat. As much as we try to control our food, our eating habit may slowly shift away from the healthy line to the not-so-healthy line. And the thing is, we probably won’t even realise that shift to the point where we look at ourselves in the mirror and realise how our faces have lost the healthy glow they once had; or when we hop on the scale and shouted: “Dang..! There must be something wrong with this scale!!!”

It is crucial that we start taking care of our body from today. Accumulated toxin in our body may well cause a lot of unwanted consequences in our later years. The idea of growing old HEALTHILY should really be more than enough of a reason for us to look after our regime.

With that in mind, I’m going to dedicate a special category in this blog entitled GOOD FOOD (food that both tastes GOOD and does GOOD to our body). Every once in a while, I’m going to write about some of the world’s healthiest food and what they can do for us. So when you forget the reason you should eat that  fruit stocked in your refrigerator, you can always look at my GOOD FOOD category to remind you WHY—Although  technically, it will be so much faster to just BITE-CHEW-SWALLOW the fruit without logging in to your computer again) :P

So today, the lucky fruit is: (drum rolls)….GUAVA!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present you, the reasons  GUAVA is so freaking good for our body:

  1. Guava has the highest concentration of carotenoid lycopene—an antoxidant that prevents and repairs damaged cells.  A cup of guava has 17% more lycopene than an equivalent amount of tomatoes!

  2. Lycopene reduces the risk of prostate cancer!

  3. Lycopene inhibits the growth of breast cancer!

  4. Guava is a heavyweight of potassium—something that lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke and even blood pressure!

  5. It is high in fiber!

  6. It is a heavyweight of vitamin C!

  7. It offers added folate, calcium and magnesium, vitamin A, and beta-carotene!!

Now now, get a pen, and jot down ”GUAVA” in your grocery list :D

i often drink a mixed juice of guava and tomato plus another extra glass of celery juice but i never knew guava has 17% more lycopene than tomato. is that true that to ensure lycopene absorbed by our body, you should eat ‘good fat’ together with your tomato otherwise d lycopene will only pass by the system and not absorbed.

And so I heard about the story of tomato + extra virgin olive oil. But in the case of tomato, you can just cook it (heating changes the lycopene structure and makes it readily usable).

I personally luv roasted cherries tomatoes for breakfast on a side with some scrambled egg, cooked with extra virgin olive oil–healthy & hearty breakfast in a minute :D

Wow Michel, you really ARE taking a good care of your health. Now I know the secret to your glowing skin, hehe :D

To Jie: Thank you for adding yet another reason why Guava rocks BIG time! :D
