Rata-WHAT?!? Ratatouille!!!

ratatouille-illustration.jpg

When I found out months ago that Disney & Pixar was about to launch a movie called “Ratatouille”, I was ecstatic and was really looking forward to actually watching it in cinema.  Who wouldn’t? These two big giants have produced great movies that had literally made me drop my jaws, gasp in disbelief, laugh so loudly that people actually turn their heads to me, and even stir my emotions that I cried (yes, I could be like  waterworks sometimes, haha).

And to know that we get to enjoy & witness the work of hundreds of some of the most talented people in the world (under the wings of Disney & Pixar) with a mere price of a cinema ticket…..Need I say more?! :D

I speak French, and I think whoever found the title was a genius. I’ve known RATATOUILLE the food since my early stages of learning French—but little did I pay attention to the “RAT” in the front part.

I was with my sister in our study room that day (doing our own stuff), and the conversation went like this..

Me                  :“You know about the new movie “Ratatouille”, yea?”

Ivonne            : “Yea..”

Me                  : “Do you know what it is, what ratatouille really is?”

Ivonne            : “Nope”

Me                  : It’s a French vegetable stew that originates from Niece—originally called “Ratatouille Niçoise”. You can find in it: zucchini, pepper, tomato, sometimes with eggplant. Then comes garlic & onion of course—all sautéed lightly in olive oil. You also add Herbes de Provence and basil in it. You know when you eat crepes? You have the option of Ratatouille filling too. Only most of the time people used canned Ratatouille.

Ivonne            : Uh-hm…

Me                  : Are you listening?

Ivonne            : Hmm..yea

Me                  : So what’s inside Ratatouille?

Ivonne            : Garlic, onion, wortel, buncis, hmm…..

Me                  : (I burst in laughter) WORTEL & BUNCIS??!?!?! What are you trying to make? TAHU ISI ?!?! You just need to toss in some BI-HUN there!!

And we both laughed out very very loudly. My sister just couldn’t care less when it comes to cooking. But she’s good at preparing beverages (while I totally flunk at it), so we both just complement each other.

Anyway, we just watched Ratatouille a couple of hours ago. In a bit, I’ll write about the WHYs and the WHATs of the take-home message, and why they just really made sense in our daily life J

    Thanks, Im :)

Haven’t been to Black Cat, will check it out one of these days.

Yes, it’s indeed pronounce “Ratatui” in Indonesian, or “Rata-too-ee” in English, just without the prolonged EE. (I happen to speak French myself hahaha) :P
